Hexie Progress

[sew hexie quilt].

I've been playing with this. I'm not sure I love the colors yet, its not quite what I was going for, but then again, its experience.

The giant hexie pattern is from Blueberry Park. I really really love her samples, one in the teal/gray combo, and another in a beautiful coral/aqua colorway. The only modification to the pattern is I didn't do half-hexies sewn back together. I used her Y-seam tutorial and it worked perfectly. MUCH faster than half-hexies I *think.*

I am in love with hexies.

In love.

OK, on to reading. I have been digging into Ann Voskamp's Advent book, The Greatest Gift.  Its good; her writing style is unique, and I find it interesting to read it through my Catholic eyes. Enjoying it very much.

I'll be back later to link with Elizabeth if she posts a needle and thREAD. Otherwise, my dear sewing friends, I will see you after Christmas!

And here is that link.

  2. I love it, especially the pops of red. I think the yellow border isn't so great. Can you change the border? Maybe with a dark blue or grey or aqua/red like the little red riding hood? I haven't machine pieced hexis, and after seeing this one, I think I'll give it a shot. How big are they? Merry Christmas!

    1. Or maybe a more maize-y yellow... or a thinner border? This quilt has my mind reeling with possiblities :) Maybe I should start a fabric pull tonight?!?

    2. Hi Kelli, just reading this now but would you believe I actually did rip off the borders last night, quilted it and bound it with a great yellow and it's fabulous! I originally bordered it to make it a bit bigger but I ended up just adding a couple more rows of hexies to the length. That was a lot more work but im so happy i did. The hexies are 8". I will post a proper picture of the finished quilt in a day or two, right now it's packed up and enroute with me (its a Xmas gift). Anyway, thanks for your comment I sure do appreciate constructive honesty!! Merry Christmas Kelli :)
